This is a re-edited 2011 Award winning music video to help raise awareness for endangered species. Being an art educator, artist, and musician, and because animals are dear to my heart, after I wrote the song, and created a short music video I asked my students to draw their concerns for animals on the planet. They had to do their own research with their parents because I did not want to influence their work and thoughts. Children from different countries drew from their hearts. Both parents and children agreed to help me and on the video, you can see the artwork and at the end of the video you can hear them speak in their own language about endangered species. What will it take to save our endangered species and how can we find ways to co-exist with animals on this planet? Each and every one of us must help to find the solutions. Tohorā He Waiata (The Whale Song) is a collaborative work, the mission of which is to increase awareness in the urgency to protect Whales. The song was inspired by New Zealand, also known as Aotearoa, and its Māori people, who hold the Whales sacred in their hearts and lives. As the Māori pray for and bless Whales in the sea and those who have been beached and lay lifeless on the sand, I hope that my song will help save the remaining Whales who swim freely in the seas.

This is a music video that I made that was a part of my Senior thesis at Otis College of Art and Design. I'm a freedom fighter for elephants (perhaps because part of my name means 'freedom') and my very first friend as a baby while I was in the incubator was an elephant doll. This video is for Billy at a Zoo and the rest of the elephants held captive in Zoo's, circuses, logging, begging, abused, and for those who are hunted and killed in nature. We need to co-exist. I have helped fight for elephants in captivity at an LA Town Hall meeting to spare Billy's pen mate Ruby so she could go into a sanctuary. Ruby is now happy at PAWS Sanctuary but what about Billy?? Every few years elephants die at zoo's...let's give them the home they deserve as close as the home we took them from. Elephants can't help themselves...they need our help. Please note that I respect zoo keepers and elephant caregivers who give elephants the 'humane' care that they deserve. I appreciate and respect their jobs but when I see conditions that are not well-suited for elephants I just cant sit still. I am not one-sided, and there is no need to explain who is right and who is wrong. I just want to save our elephants and help raise awareness. We will lose elephants if we do not save them. This is not a video to criticize anyone...it is simply a message of hope and plight for the elephants. For you Billy... Mayuka Thais
